World Economic Forum recognizes Liquid Robotics’ Co-founder, Roger Hine, as one of the world’s top Technology Pioneers for 2013

Sunnyvale, CA and Kamuela, HI, August 28, 2012

Liquid Robotics®, an ocean data service provider and developer of the Wave Glider®, the first wave powered autonomous marine robot, is proud to announce Roger Hine, Liquid Robotics co-founder and CTO, was named as one of the World Economic Forum’s twenty-three Technology Pioneers for 2013. Each year the World Economic Forum selects an elite group based on innovation, leadership and the potential for their work to transform business and society. Roger Hine’s invention of the Wave Glider, the first autonomous marine robot designed to operate solely on renewable energies (wave and solar power), was selected based on its ability to revolutionize the way the world monitors, explores and operates in our oceans.

“I am incredibly honored and proud of the collective achievement of the Liquid Robotics team,” said Roger Hine, Technology Pioneer and CTO. “Our customers seek to improve scientific understanding, protect our environment, and forecast the behavior of complex, interconnected planetary systems that impact our lives. To do this they need widespread, continuous ocean data collection. What better way to monitor our vast oceans than with intelligent mobile devices that consume no fuel, and have no crew?”

Wave Glider products and ocean data services are used across a broad array of scientific, oil & gas and defense applications. These applications include: tracking Great White Sharks along the coast of California, monitoring Atlantic hurricane and Pacific typhoon intensity, measuring water quality in the Gulf of Mexico, and providing real time observations and communications for ocean operations around the world.

“These companies are more than pioneering the way we use technology; they are transforming how we as a society are growing and interacting with each other,” said Silvia von Gunten, Head of Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum. “They are also providing new opportunities for people to harness the potential of technology.”
